El territorio ancestral wayuu es la pen nsula de la Guajira y reas adyacentes que comprenden parte de Colombia y de Venezuela en el punto m's septentrional del subcontinente suramericano. Estas son voces ind genas, amerindias, de un Caribe geopo tico amplio, un Gran Caribe, tambi n llamado Cariaban, donde el mar, los r os, los m danos, monta as y selvas crean redes que se extienden desde las costas e islas hasta las cuencas del Orinoco y el Amazonas.
